If I remember rightly Doug Turnbull was the guy who was filching from the assembly contribution boxes over many years and had numerous liaisons with a number of pioneer sisters.
Tug Wilson (ex flying squad) caught him at it, got disfellowshiped, moved to Scotland and bought a large office cleaning company with his ill gotten gains and swore that someday he would be back.

While we’re reminiscing does anyone remember the Wembley assembly in the early ‘60s using both the stadium and the hall when as part of a demonstration a very loud motorcycle ridden by a "Rocker" dressed in leathers startled the entire audience by roaring onto and around the large platform?
A warning I think that motorcycles are evil and from the debil or was it perhaps leather jackets? It made such an impression on me that I forgot which, so to be on the safe side from then on I assiduously avoided both. (became a "Mod")

the feb 1st wt has a banner headline on the cover "must we always tell the truth" - inside it says (p1) "' i hate lies and i hate being lied to" exclaimed a 16 year old girl" ... so , o.k.
we must expect that anyone printing such things must themselves be absolutely honest and truthful .. so why do they use misleading quotations that are, practice, nothing short of lies?
many have been documented but this one came my way recently while using another thread .. the book "let your kingdom come" has an appendix dealing with babylonian and jewish chronology .
I’m sure I’ve seen somewhere a comprehensive list of wts misquotes but I can’t remember where. It gave the quote followed by the full text making it crystal clear that the authors original meaning was usually the exact opposite of the use made of it in their publications.
Does anyone know of such a resource?
it always amazed me how jws can have almost two different personalities.
it's not quite like having a double life, but it's the hypocricy of jws themselves.. i remember going to those meetings and seeing everyone with their plastic smiles, as if they were the greatest people in the world.
but you lift the curtain of their home lives, and their true personalities come out.. my mother was an entirely different person at the meetings.
My mother exhibited many of the traits of the perfect witness when with others but at home and dealings with the neighbours she was the most devious, underhanded dishonest, arrogant, hateful individual I knew or have ever met since.
After many decades of pondering this anomaly the only conclusion I can come to is that she had been an abused child. I hope she had been as that is the only way I can see to forgive her for the damage she did me, both physically and mentally as a child.
The Watchtower religion gave her the perfect cover to hide all her abominable personality traits while giving her the satisfaction of "knowing" she was better than others.

Another one I remember well was when our meetings were held in a large room in a public building that was also used by the spiritualists to hold their meeting on the same evening.
Our Congregation Servant (pre elder days) stated that the spiritualists had complained to the building management that their meetings were a failure since the JW’s had moved in and wanted us to either go elsewhere or change our meeting day as they were there first.
This he said was because Holy Spirit is stronger than Satan and this proved it, which is rather odd as the congregation was disbanded soon after due to a severe shortage of male servants.
Apart from the CS all the other servants were women, literature, accounts, ministry school talks at the time when only males gave talks, prayers (head covered), etc, etc.
For years after I was confused by this outcome, although claiming to be appointed by holy spirit had our CS got it wrong?

As witlesses we prayed to Jehovah. As we know now this is a name thought up by a 13 th
century Roman Catholic monk and even the witlesses accept that the most accurate translation of YHWH is most defiantly not this.
So all those years we were praying to nobody.
The most significant prayer in the entire Bible is surely the Lords Prayer.
Jesus said to pray to Our Heavenly Father, no name required.
Also don’t forget "time and unforeseen occurrence" (NWT speak, horrible) befalls us all.
What our Heavenly Father has promised is that he will help us cope with any difficulty, not remove it.
I pray for help in acquiring the relevant knowledge, understanding, wisdom and self control.
For the first time in 50 years I feel my prayers are heard.

nwt places comma here , giving a totally different meaning to the verse.
now the average jw uses this to back their doctrine and it seems in itself virtually impossible to reason with them on it.

Could a possible explanation be that Jesus and the evildoer had an immediate resurrection as spirit creatures to heavenly life, i.e. that very day? (On the 40 th day Jesus ascended to that part where his Father is)
Jesus’ human body however remained in Hades for 3 days before being resurrected. This body Jesus could now show his disciples with the holes in the hands and feet but this body was not something that Jesus needed any longer as he is clearly no longer human. He then disposed of it when it was no longer required.
I’ve not seen this put forward anywhere but it strikes me as a possible way to explain it all.

yes, but sometimes these persons were highly placed and in a position to influence others, DO,CO, branch overseer etc and as they had all been "appointed by holy spirit" we were being unfaithful to "jehovahs arrangement" if we ignored their counsel..
also, no smoke without fire often proves true.
Thinking of branch overseers, the reason why we spent the early decades of our married life in rented rooms ( and many others did the same) was because at an international assembly back in the 1960's Wilf Gooch stated that having a mortgage to buy a house was making oneself "a part of this system of things", and starting a family was better put off until the "new order". To this day i can still see and hear that moment that convinced me that to please Jehovah we needed to forget about getting a place of our own and thus be in a position to start a family, in his words to keep our life "simple".
Were he and others like him conmen?
They got our trust and proceeded to abuse us, physically, materially and most of all spiritually.
No doubt in my mind that’s the worst kind of confidence trickster, one that leaves absolutely no part of your life untouched. A religious conman has to be the worst kind, a compulsive thief, liar and hypocrite.

In all the illustrations Adam and Jesus had no facial hair. Apparently facial hair was a sign of imperfection. Thank goodness the light got brighter; I don’t feel so bad now with a beard.
